A major development project will be begin on the Strand this summer after being delayed due to Eurovision.
Phase two of the redevelopment project is believed to begin in around six weeks after it was halted to avoid clashing with the city's busy Eurovision timetable. The first phase of the project saw the Strand cut to four lanes from six, with a new cycle lane added.
The continuation of the £22m scheme will see the cycle lane connected to the route running through the Baltic Triangle, and a further 70 trees will be planted along the road. The works have been a point of controversy for some, with drivers complaining it will cause congestion and queues.
On Facebook, Ian Ralli said "phase one made it much worse, [I] can't wait for months of roadworks to make it even worse."

Leigh Edwards said the wider scheme the project is a part of has 'separated the city, not connected it'. She said: "Reduce exhaust fumes? It's just made it move to two areas of the city. The whole thing is a joke, an unfunny one."
ECHO commenter Hoppop said: "The Strand is a joke in rush hour backed up down Leeds street and this plan was to reduce emissions how can it do that when you got cars backed up a mile stop start and pumping more crap in to the air."
Yet, some have called for the council to "get on with it", in the words of one commenter, who argued that with 'new trains coming' and the 'buses set to improve' it's time to increase capacity 'in a sustainable way.'
Simon Says said: "We'll know it's worked when we finally get a Christmas without those ridiculous stories showing town is gridlocked."
On Facebook James Mark Mounsey said: "Get phase two built. There's no point in doing half a job, and phase one has been open for a good time now."

One commenter - brutalist - said: "Great to see continuity on this work. It’s slow, but it’s progress. Can’t be easy to retrofit such a backward designed city.
"Car-brains will complain no matter what gets done, so it’s best to just ignore them. You could add several more lanes to the ugly roads they love, and they’d still complain they need more! Hoping to see bus lanes re-introduced, but properly this time."
Others have called drivers 'selfish'. One commenter said: "Why are all the selfish drivers harping on about the cycle lane. Drivers have much more roadspace and still want more.
"Selfish motorists as usual, 'oh it adds ten minutes to my journey, disgraceful', get over it.
"Even better is the concern over a perceived increase in pollution due to idling cars, seriously car drivers are now attempting to deflect blame for air pollution onto other forms of transport, we are in this mess partially due to drivers."
Commenter 'SoggyBottom', said: "Some of the excuses rattled on about here are crackers. Why do the moaners continually blame others for their problems. If you are stuck in a small queue of traffic try something else, the world does not revolve around you and your journey to the shops or to work."
