Drivers are just finding out about a 'secret' switch located underneath one of your car's mirrors, and knowing about it could help to prevent potentially fatal accidents.
When you're behind the wheel, it's vital to focus all your attention on the road - but this can be difficult when bright LED headlights start coming at you. In fact, a survey by the RAC found that 90% of drivers have admitted to being 'dazzled' in this way.
But there's a way to help limit the glare of cars that are behind you, and it's all to do with a little-known switch near your rear view mirror.
The tip was posted on TikTok by @everythingbrooklyn, who demonstrated the button in a video that has garnered over two million views and hundreds of thousands of likes. "Me flipping the rear view mirror tab so the headlights don't blind me," she captioned it.
Underneath the rear view mirrors of many cars is a small tab that, when flipped, angles the mirror in a different direction so that the beams of light don't hit it the same way.
This helps to reduce the glare, because the light from behind is guided down past the eye instead of directly into it. The TikTok's comments were full of people baffled that they'd never came across this hack before, and praised Brooklyn for sharing it.
One person wrote: "I didn’t know about this either until a few weeks ago and my life has been changed ever since."
"Never knew that’s what that little tab thing is for," said another.
And someone else said: "My dad taught me that and I was so surprised."
However, some people were equally as confused that the woman hadn't been taught the hack any earlier.
"How did none of you know this," someone wondered.
And someone else said: "I've taught loads of people this lately...seems too many don't know about it!"
