Drivers face £100 fines at popular drop-off spot at Scottish airport

FINES of £100 are set to be enforced at a popular drop-off point at a Scottish airport.

A new sign has been spotted outside the Holiday Inn Express near Aberdeen Airport, announcing a strict no parking, picking up, or dropping off policy.

The sign says “entry for hotel customers only” and is accompanied by a warning that anyone violating this will face a £100 fine.

Should this remain unpaid within 28 days, a further £70 charge will apply and blue badge holders will not be exempt from the fines.

Vehicle Control Services Limited, based in Sheffield, is listed as the managing authority for the area.

The company provides “cost-effective parking solutions to both the public and private sectors”.

The road just outside the hotel has become a popular drop-off point for members of the public as well as taxi drivers.

However, speaking to the Press and Journal, taxi driver of 18 years Kevin Sherwin said, “people are going to be absolutely fuming”.

“How are they going to police it? If someone gets into my taxi and says Holiday Inn Express, I’m not going to say, ‘Is it the Holiday Inn Express or are you just using that as an excuse’,” he said.

The National has approached Holiday Inn for comment.

At Aberdeen Airport, there is an express drop-off zone outside the main terminal which charges £5.50 for a 15-minute stay.

If drivers remain longer than this, they will incur a charge of £1 per minute with a flat fee of £50 after 30 minutes.

The short stay car park is recommended for anyone who needs to stay longer than 15 minutes.

The long stay car park also offers a free pick-up option, allowing drivers to leave their car for up to one hour.

Passengers can be picked up here or they can take a shuttle bus to the terminal.
