A man with a provisional licence who tested positive for cocaine has been arrested after allegedly crashing a car into roadworks.
West Yorkshire Police’s road policing unit were called to crash on Dale Street in Huddersfield at roughly 11.20pm on Tuesday.
The car was found in a hole that had been dug in the ground for roadworks.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of taking a car without consent and drug driving offences.
He remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing by road policing officers, the force said on Wednesday.
In a tweet the road policing unit said the driver had tested positive for cocaine during a roadside drugs test, and was driving with a provisional licence and no car insurance.
Cocaine is a class A drug in the UK and treated as one of the most dangerous in drug offences, along with ecstasy, heroin, LSD, magic mushrooms and methamphetamine.
A provisional driving licence gives permission to drive on UK roads - excluding motorways - only under the supervision of a driving instructor or another driver over the age of 21 who has held a full driving licence for a minimum of three years.
