Driver taken to hospital with chest injuries following lorry crash on A1 County Durham

A lorry driver has been taken to hospital with chest injuries after a crash on the A1 in County Durham.

Durham police received a report of a one-vehicle collision on the A1M near Junction 60 at Bradbury shortly before 7am on Thursday morning.

The collision involved a lorry which is believed to have hit a bridge.

Officers have since confirmed that the driver has been taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with chest injuries.

The road was closed northbound while emergency services were at the scene.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called to reports of a one vehicle collision on the A1M near Junction 60 shortly before 7am this morning (January 27).

"It involved a Scania truck which is believed to have collided with a bridge.

"The driver has been taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with chest injuries."

While the northbound carriageway was closed, traffic was diverted via the exit and entry slip roads.
