Driver Survives 100-Foot Cliff Plunge In Long Island Chase

Driver survived 100-foot plunge into Long Island Sound after police chase.

A dramatic car chase on Long Island, New York, ended in a surprising turn of events as the driver survived a 100-foot plunge into Long Island Sound after a 45-minute pursuit by police. The incident unfolded on Monday when authorities in Southold responded to a domestic violence call, sparking the high-speed chase.

According to Police Chief Martin Flatley, the driver evaded police and accelerated to speeds of up to 100 mph while crisscrossing eastern Long Island. The pursuit took a dangerous turn when the driver turned onto Sound Road in Greenport, driving towards the water without any intention of stopping.

Chief Flatley described the intense moment, stating that the driver showed no signs of slowing down, never hitting the brakes. The vehicle eventually collided with an embankment at the end of the street, propelling it over the bluff and into Long Island Sound, where it landed in shallow waters measuring 3 to 5 feet deep.

Despite the dramatic crash, officers swiftly responded, diving into the water to rescue the driver and subsequently taking him into custody. Remarkably, the driver, although complaining of pain, miraculously sustained no visible injuries from the harrowing ordeal.

As of now, charges against the driver are pending as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The daring chase and miraculous survival of the driver have left the community and law enforcement stunned by the extraordinary events that unfolded on that fateful day.
