Driver shamed by cops who 'knew they were breaking the law' with horrific parking

A driver has been publicly shamed by cops for their terrible parking.

Soho Road in Birmingham has been slammed by the force after a special operation to crackdown on illegal parking was launched on June 1.

Multiple drivers were handed a fine, as well as some pictures showing the state of the road and flagrant drivers blocking pavements and junctions, with officers saying they "knew they were committing offences, but carried on and did it anyway".

One snap shows a silver Vauxhall parked partly on a kerb and the road, blocking the footpath and carriageway.

In total, 37 fixed penalty notices were handed out during the crackdown, the BirminghamMail reports.

A police spokesman shared photos of the dreadful parking situation and said: "We listened to your concerns about the awful parking you’ve been suffering across the neighbourhood & we acted. We are so grateful for your feedback and support.

"We start by enforcement against the driver, if they’re around we engage them, explaining what’s wrong and hope that encourages better driving practices in the future as we’ve proven that this culture of bad parking.

"Feedback from all of the drivers we spoke to today was that they knew they were committing offences, but carried on & did it anyway!

"This is yet more evidence that this is a cultural issue of ignoring the rules of the road and cannot be resolved by Encouragement and Education alone.

"Hence our approach and the impact it’s now having. We thought that this repeat offending site would be the worst we would see today but we were wrong."

The force then went on to share the picture of the silver Vauxhall which had mounted the pavement the wrong way, stating they would "actively seek" the driver.

A spokesman added: "We have issued 37 fixed penalty notices today for a range of parking offences. If you see your car in our photos expect a letter in the next few days Illegal parking has a profound effect on other road users, creating dangerous situations and putting lives at risk."
