Driver's lucky escape after dramatic crash sees car flip onto side on Derwent Walk

A motorist had a lucky escape when their car landed on its side on a County Durham cycling and walking path in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A silver Volkswagen Golf with a mangled rear end and both its airbags deployed partially blocked the Derwent Walk near Ebchester.

A sign in the window showed that police were aware of the incident before the recovery operation could begin.
