Driver reported as 'lorry overturns' on A75 with 30-mile diversion for motorists

A driver has been reported in connection with road traffic offences after a "lorry overturned" on a busy Scots road in the early hours of this morning.

The one-vehicle incident forced the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway to close in both directions at around 3.30am.

Amey SW Trunk Roads reported there had been a crash at Halfway House, near Newton Stewart.

At 4.30am, roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix reported the road was closed from the A747 at Glenluce to the B735 at Newton Stewart, near Kirkcowan.

Traffic Scotland also warned motorists of longer than normal journey times with a 29.7 mile diversion put in place.

Officers confirmed there were no serious injuries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called around 2.50am on Thursday, 3 February, 2022 following the report of a one vehicle road crash on the A75 near Glenluce.

"There were no serious injuries and the driver has been reported in connection with road traffic offences."

The road remains closed during rush hour due to difficulties recovering the lorry.

An update from Inrix said: "A75 in both directions closed due to overturned lorry between Whitecairn Caravan Park Turn Off (Glenluce) and Wigtown Turn Off (Newton Stewart).

"Closed since the early hours of the morning and is expected to remain closed for some time due to difficulties with recovering the lorry.

"Diversion - Westbound via the A714, through Wigtown and Bladnoch, followed by the B7085 to Port William and then the A714 to re-join the the A75.

"Eastbound diversion is the same but in reverse."

At around 12.40pm they confirmed the road had re-opened.
