Driver rammed police car in 'stolen' flatbed truck in Nottinghamshire town

A driver deliberately reversed 'at speed' into a police car in a Nottinghamshire town before fleeing into the night. An officer was out on patrol in Retford when they attempted to stop a flatbed truck on Cobwell Road at around 10.55pm on Thursday, April 6.

Instead of stopping, the vehicle reportedly reversed straight into the officer's car, causing considerable damage, reports Lincolnshire Live. According to Chief Inspector Anwaar Ahmed, of Nottinghamshire Police, the suspect then drove off and fled the scene. The officer was not seriously injured.

Chief Inspector Ahmed said: "It really should go without saying, but deliberately reversing into a police vehicle, and an officer who was simply doing his job is totally unacceptable." He added that the truck, which is believed to be stolen, was later found abandoned.

Eyewitnesses said on social media that the area was 'crawling' with police officers into the early hours of Friday morning. The chief inspector confirmed on Tuesday, April 11 that the investigation was still ongoing.

He said: "Our investigation into this incident is continuing and our officers are working hard to carry out CCTV inquiries and a closer inspection of the vehicle to find those responsible.

"I want to ask anyone who may have any information, or any CCTV or dash cam footage, to please get in touch with us by calling 101, quoting incident number 880 of 6 April 2023, or contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
