Driver in critical condition after crash in Caerphilly

A driver is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash in Caerphilly. The two-car collision happened on the A469 junction on Watford Road at around 10.20pm on Friday, April 7.

Officers from Gwent Police along with fire crews and paramedics attended the scene of the collision, which involved a silver Citroen C1 and a white Volkswagen transporter van. The driver of the Citroen was then taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where he remains in a critical condition.

The van driver, a 35-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released by police as they continue to investigate the crash.

Officers are now appealing for anyone travelling on the A469 or Watford Road around the time of the collision, or those with dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward and assist with the investigation.

A statement from Gwent Police read: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A469 junction, Watford Road, Caerphilly, at around 10.20pm on Friday April 7. Officers attended, along with personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. The collision involved two cars – a silver Citroen C1 and a white Volkswagen transporter van.

"The driver of the Citroen C1 was taken to the University Hospital of Wales and remains in a critical condition. The driver of the VW Transporter, a 35-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released as our investigation continues.

It continued: "Officers investigating the collision want to speak to any motorists who were travelling on the A469, or Watford Road, between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on Friday April 7, or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage. Call 101, quoting log reference 2300111968, or send us a direct message on social media.
