Driver flees scene after stolen Fiesta lands on side in crash with lamppost and parked cars

A driver fled from the scene after a stolen Fiesta landed on its side in a crash with a lamppost and 'a number of parked vehicles' in Heywood.

Police were called to Bury Old Road, near the junction with Sutherland Road, at around 6.30pm tonight (Tuesday).

A spokesman for GMP said they arrived at the scene to find a car on its side, but the occupants had fled.

Dramatic pictures taken in the aftermath of the crash showed the car was badly damaged after landing on its side on a driveway.

The Fiesta was believed to have been stolen from an address in Rochdale, the GMP spokesman said.

He said: "We were called at 6.30pm. Another vehicle was damaged.

"There was also damage to a lamppost.

"The occupants must have run away. Enquiries are ongoing."

A spokeswoman for GMFRS said: “We were called to reports of a collision involving one car and a number of parked vehicles on Bury Old Road, in Heywood, at 6.38pm on Tuesday, 24 November.

“One fire engine from Heywood quickly attended the scene.

“Firefighters made the scene safe. Fire crews were in attendance for around 45 minutes.”
