Driver issued citations after fatally striking woman, 73, in West Town

A driver was issued citations after fatally striking a 73-year-old woman in a crosswalk in the West Town neighborhood Tuesday, Chicago police said.

A man driving a Ford van struck the woman around 2:30 p.m. as he turned left from southbound Paulina Street to Chicago Avenue, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead a half hour later at Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Her name hasn’t been released.

The driver, 57, was issued citations for “pedestrian in roadway due care,” police said.

At least six other pedestrians have been struck and killed by drivers in Chicago this year, according to the website Streetsblog Chicago, which tracks fatalities.
