A man has died after a horror crash on a main road on a Scots island.
The 37-year-old lost his life after his green Vauxhall Astra crashed on the A965 at Deepdale, near Stromness, on the Orkney mainland this morning.
Cops locked down the road in order as they launched a probe into the cause of the fatal smash, which happened at around 8.10am.
Locals reported that traffic was diverted away from the scene via nearby Brae Road.
The driver's name has not been released by police, but his next of kin have been informed.
He was the only occupant of the car at the time of the smash.
Officers have urged locals who may have witnessed the crash or have dashcam footage from the area to get in touch.
Sergeant David Miller, of the Highlands and Islands Division Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this time.
"Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may have information to come forward.
“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the road around the time of the incident.
“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 0537 of 4 March.”
