A man has died after his car plunged over a cliff by a popular holiday park in North Yorkshire, police have confirmed.
Emergency services rushed to Blue Dolphin holiday park near Filey after reports that a car had fallen 200 feet onto the rocks below, shortly after 1.30pm on Tuesday.
North Yorkshire Police have said that the man was the only occupant in the car and that while his family have been informed, they are not yet able to release his identity.
The Coastguard, RNLI, fire service and the ambulance service were all at the scene of the incident with images showing multiple emergency service vehicles by the cliff.
Witnesses saw helicopters overhead and the lifeboats in the water, reported YorkshireLive.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "We can now confirm that sadly, a man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle that went over the cliff near Filey earlier today, died this afternoon.
"His family have been informed, however, we are not yet in a position to release his identity."
An investigation is under way to find out the circumstances behind the tragedy.
The spokesman added: "Police investigators remain at the scene of the incident to examine the scene and establish the circumstances that led to the car going over the cliff. A multi-agency operation is in place to arrange for the recovery the vehicle from the base of the cliffs."
An early statement read: "We are working with the Coastguard, RNLI, fire service and ambulance service at the scene of an incident on the cliffs near the Blue Dolphin holiday park near Filey.
"We received reports at around 1.34pm on 18 October that a car had gone over the cliff onto the rocks below. All agencies are working together to attend to the casualty and recover the vehicle. We will keep you updated."
