A 26-year-old man was pronounced dead after falling from an overpass on the Dan Ryan Expressway following a multi-vehicle crash early Saturday on the South Side.
About 2 a.m., four vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of Interstate 90/94 near 26th Street, according to the Illinois State Police.
David Ponce De Leon, 26, witnessed the crash, pulled over to the shoulder and got out of his car, state police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
A sixth driver then “drove into the area” where De Leon was standing near the passenger side of his vehicle, which apparently lead to him falling from the overpass, according to a spokesman for state police, who said investigators were still trying to determine how it happened.
De Leon was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said.
