A man charged with attempted murder after striking three pedestrians, leaving two fighting for their lives, has appeared in court.
A Toyota Corolla struck three people as they were walking near an intersection in the regional Victorian town of Stawell on Wednesday afternoon.
Two men, aged 53 and 23, suffered life-threatening injuries and were airlifted to hospital in Melbourne.
The driver, Scott Thomas from Stawell, was charged with attempted murder, reckless conduct endangering life and other offences.
The 35-year-old faced Ararat Magistrates Court via video link on Friday and will face a committal hearing in Ballarat Magistrates Court on July 27.
Police say mechanical analysis of the vehicle and toxicology results could take months.
Thomas reportedly suffered from mental health issues and had been prescribed a number of medications at the time of the incident, according to his mother, who attended the hearing with other family members
