Posting on the GMP Traffic Twitter page, a spokesperson said: “Friday 22/04 #SRTTaskingTeam pursued this cloned Vauxhall Astra on the A666 in Bolton. The driver attempted to do a U-Turn in the carriageway and drive towards oncoming cars.
“#TacticalContact brought the pursuit to a safe conclusion + the driver was detained following a foot chase.”
Cloned vehicles involve the copying of the identity of an existing vehicle by stealing or duplicating registration plates. It is often used to carry out crime or to avoid speeding or parking fines.
The incident happened just hours before police engaged in another pursuit in Bolton on Friday evening where a man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and 'drug offences' after a Mercedes smashed into an Audi on Chorley New Road.
