Driver and passengers have lucky escape after yobs smash car window on busy 50mph Scots road

Police officers are hunting a gang of five or six youths who hurled a projectile at a car travelling along a 50mph dual carriageway and smashed its rear window.

The group of thugs were standing on Liff Terrace in Dundee's Dryburgh area overlooking the A90 Kingsway ring road when they struck.

They threw an unknown object at a passing white Mazda heading south-west, towards the area of a nearby BP petrol station and Subway shop.

It smashed the rear window of the car, leaving its occupants badly shaken.

No-one was injured, but police have slammed the "reckless conduct" of the youths who could have caused a serious accident.

Officers want to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage, and from local residents who may have private CCTV or video doorbell footage that could prove essential to their investigations.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We are currently investigating an incident that took place between 1:30pm – 1:40pm this afternoon, Sunday 6th February, on Kingsway West, Dundee.

"A white Mazda car driving southwest (towards Myrekirk) on Kingsway approaching the area of the BP petrol station and Subway shop had a rear window shattered by an object thrown by a group of youths standing in Liff Terrace.

"Fortunately, nobody was injured, although the occupants of the car were left badly shaken.

"The group was seen to comprise about 5 or 6 youths. One wore a purple hooded top with a black gilet, another wore an orange hooded top, and the others all wore dark clothing.

"We would like to hear from anyone who was driving on the road around that time who may have dashcam footage, or residents in the Liff Terrace or northern Dryburgh area who may have private CCTV or video doorbells that may have captured images of this group around the relevant time.

"If you have any information that could assist us, please call 101 or speak to any police officer.

"Also, information can be given anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is incident 1891 of 6th February."
