A driver has pleaded guilty to causing the death of two women and causing serious injury to another in a crash. Geraint Blackman was told to "expect only one kind of sentence" after causing fatal injuries to Brenda and Rosemary Mochan.
The 22-year-old defendant's Vauxhall Astra collided with a Ford Fiesta containing Brenda and Rosemary along with Katie Mochan on the A4048 in Pontllanfraith, near Blackwood, on May 8 last year. All three women were taken to hospital but Brenda and Rosemary died as a result of their injuries.
Blackman, of Part Street, Blaina, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving. He also pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving in respect of Katie Mochan.
Defence barrister Jeffrey Jones asked for sentencing to be adjourned in order for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. Judge Michael Fitton KC adjourned sentencing until January 9 next year.
He remanded Blackman in custody until the sentencing date. He told the defendant to "expect only one kind of sentence" which would be immediate imprisonment.
