Security forces at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland (JBSA) were involved in a drive-by shooting incident early Saturday morning. According to a JBSA spokesperson, officers returned fire on at least one suspect who had fired upon the main gate at the JBSA-Chapman Training Annex.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when officers were fired upon by at least one suspect in a sedan. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and the gate was temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.
It remains unclear how many individuals were involved in the shooting and the number of shots fired at the base. The spokesperson emphasized that there was no active threat to the installation, and security forces acted promptly to address the situation.
The JBSA-Chapman Training Annex entry gate was reopened around 9:30 a.m. local time after being closed for several hours. Drivers were advised to use an alternate gate located north of the primary entrance on Ray Ellison Boulevard.
Joint Base San Antonio comprises several military installations, including Randolph Air Force Base, Fort Sam Houston, and the Camp Bullis training camp. Lackland, one of the bases within JBSA, is home to a significant number of active duty members and Department of Defense civilians, totaling over 34,000 personnel.
The base houses various units and wings, such as the 37th Training Wing, 149th Fighter Wing, and the 59th Medical Wing, among others. Additionally, it accommodates agencies like the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency, the National Security Agency, and multiple associated units.
