Not every drink on a cruise has to be on the ship. Many ports have excellent bars with signature drinks made with local ingredients.
And, while it's hard to justify the expense of buying a drink on land when you have an all-inclusive drink package on the ship, some drinks make it worth the added expense. Dennis and Amy Post, of Come Cruise With Me's travel agent partners, Postcard Travel Planning, spent the end of July and the beginning of August sailing on Celebrity Beyond.

That's an Edge-class ship with multiple fabulous bars including Craft Social and Celebrity's famed Martini Bar, but when they stopped in Aruba, they could not pass up trying a Coconut Martini. That's a drink we've never seen on a Celebrity Cruises ship, so Dennis and Amy took that chance to try something new.

Meet the Coconut Martini
Minouska from the Netherlands demonstrated how to make a Coconut Martini at one of the bars at the Aruba Renaissance Hotel. She started by rubbing the rim of a martini glass on a surface covered in honey, she then dabbed the glass multiple times on coconut flakes to create a coconut-rimmed glass.
She then pours the coconut rum, Smirnoff vodka, and coconut cream into a metal mixing container. After that, Minouska adds ice and shakes the drink using a second metal mixing container.
Once the drink has been shaken, Minouska strains it into a glass over rum.
Coconut Martini recipe:
- 1.5 ounces coconut rum
- 1.5 ounces Smirnoff vodka
- 1 ounce of coconut cream
- Honey
- Coconut flakes
