LAS VEGAS – Quantity over quality appears to be Drew Dober’s motto for 2024.
The UFC lightweight veteran is looking to cash in as many checks as possible this year and that means fighting as often as possible. Dober (27-12 MMA, 13-8 UFC) returns to the octagon this Saturday against Renato Moicano (17-5-1 MMA, 9-5 UFC) in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 235, which goes down at the UFC Apex.
He wants that to be the first of four fights in 2024.
“For me, it’s whoever is available as soon as possible,” Dober said at Wednesday’s media day. “I don’t know how Saturday is going to go. I might need time to heal up, but if I don’t, I want to get back in there.
“My objective is to have more fights, not the special fights. I’m the type of guy that will fight unranked fighters. I’ll fight whoever, whenever. I’m like the new Donald Cerrone. Just throw me in there, I’ll get the job done. In 2024, I’m looking to fight four times. Whoever is available. If you want me to say some names, I’ll say: Dan Hooker (Rafael) Fiziev, Jalin Turner. All three would be fun fights. We will see who becomes available and when it’s time, and I’ll be there.”
As far as the matchup he has in hand, Dober is happy to be facing a known name such as Moicano. Although he’s aiming for volume, he does care to some degree who he’s fighting as he also wants to put on exciting fights.
“The opportunity to fight a guy like Moicano, who’s equally as vicious, violent, and he’s a gamer,” Dober said. “He’s fought guys like Jose Aldo, The Korean Zombie, he took RDA (Rafael dos Anjos) on like five days’ notice. The guy is a monster. These are the fights that excite me because I know he’s going to bring out that in me as well, and it’s going to be bloody, it’s going to be violent and fun. A smile on both our faces. These are the fights and moments I want to be remembered.”
