DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress review − comfort and convenience in one

DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress on a bed against a blue wall.

The DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress stands out from the crowd of beds-in-a-box. This isn't just a thick slab of foam, vacuum packed then dumped at your door. This is a premium bed, lined with supportive springs to withstand the wear and tear of nightly use.

I've tested a fair few beds in my time, mostly cooling memory foam models, but this hybrid mattress ranks head and shoulders above the rest. It's also one of the most affordable beds on the market right now, with deep discounts just in time for Memorial Day.

I tested the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress for more than a month to work out whether it belongs in our best mattress buying guide. I was seriously impressed on almost every front, from the edge support to the deep comfort, though the motion isolation leaves a little to be desired.

Who would suit the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress?

  • Any sleep position: that's the whole point of a hybrid mattress. You get the best of both worlds, from the plush comfort of memory foam to the support of an innerspring. The DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress has enough give to relieve pressure for side sleepers, and it's still sufficiently supportive for back and stomach sleepers.
  • Anyone who appreciates a firmer mattress: DreamCloud rates this bed a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, though I'd say it's more like a 7 or a 7.5. It's great for sleepers who like a little more support, though you could always soften it up with the best mattress topper.

  • Buyers on a budget: the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress offers excellent value and there's almost always a sale on. Right now, you can save 50% in the Memorial Day sales. Plus, this mattress comes with free shipping and returns, as well as a discounted bedding bundle.
  • Anyone who wants an innerspring base: unlike your average box mattress, which is made entirely from foam, this hybrid mattress features a supportive base of individually wrapped steel coils to bear your weight and spring back into shape.

What's it like to sleep on the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress?

(Image credit: Future / Camryn Rabideau)
  • Comfort: When you first lay down on the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress, you're welcomed with a thin layer of plush foam. Underneath, I found the mattress to feel quite firm. There's enough give that my hip and shoulder can sink in while sleeping on my side, but I never felt like I was being swallowed up. Personally, I'd put the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress up there with the best firm mattresses.
  • Support: I think the DreamCloud Mattress is plenty supportive, lined with more than a thousand stainless steel springs to lift your lumbar region and lengthen your spine. My partner disagrees: he concedes that the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress is more comfortable than our current bed, but he wishes it were plusher. He might prefer something softer, such as the Saatva Classic Mattress.
  • Motion isolation: to test how well the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress minimizes motion transfer, I set a glass of water on one end of the bed, then tossed and turned beside it. There is a method to my madness: the more the glass moves, and the more water spills, the worse the motion isolation and the less suitable a bed might be for light sleepers and anyone who shares a bed with a pet or partner. I found that, the closer I got to the glass, the more it started to move, and it was bouncing around quite perilously by the end of the test. In theory, this indicates poor motion isolation, and I felt it in practice: I bobbed and bounced on my side of the bed every time my partner rolled over on his. If you're looking for a mattress with outstanding motion isolation, I recommend the Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt Mattress.

  • Edge support: following the failure of the motion isolation test, I didn't have high hopes for the edge support, especially since I share my bed with my partner, plus our 50-pound dog. I often find myself pushed to the very edge of the mattress throughout the night, so I need a bed with solid edge support. This is where the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress really shines. The website talks about a 'heavy-duty gauge edge shield', which just means that there's a row of thicker innerspring coils around each side of the mattress. I never felt like I was going to fall off the bed, even when I was lying right on the edge of the mattress.
  • Breathability and cooling: I sleep hot, whereas my partner sleeps cold. We've struggled to find a mattress that meets both of our needs, but we were pretty satisfied with the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress. This bed is infused with a cooling gel to dissipate heat, wick moisture, and regulate body temperature. Still, I wouldn't say it's the best cooling mattress: I recommend the Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress for seriously hot sleepers.
  • Weight bearing: to get a more qualitative measure of firmness, I stacked two 10-pound weights in the middle of the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress. The weights sank easily into the plush top layer of the mattress, but each only created a small divot in the foam beneath − one and a half inches, at the most. This test supported my initial idea that the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress is solid and supportive. I'd give it a 7 or 7.5 on the firmness scale.
  • Sleep trial: like all the best box mattresses, the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress comes with a generous mattress sleep trial period. You get 365 nights to test your bed before you must commit to your purchase. All DreamCloud asks is that you try your mattress for at least 30 days before you initiate a return. Then, they'll help you to donate or dispose of your whole mattress and issue a refund.
  • Warranty: this bed comes with a limited lifetime mattress warranty. It only applies to the original owner of the mattress, as long as you've used an appropriate base and the best mattress protector to safeguard your bed.

How does the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress rate online?

The DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress boasts a 4.8 average star rating from more than 7,000 reviews on the DreamCloud website. Happy customers praise the quick delivery, reasonable price, and comfort of the mattress. There are a smattering of more mixed reviews, most of which complain that the mattress is too firm. I can't argue with that, and I suggest that sensitive sleepers shop elsewhere for a plush mattress.

Should I buy the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress?

Technically, the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress is listed for $1,332 at full-price. With that said, I've never seen this bed selling for much more than $665 in the mattress sales. That's a deep discount on a great mattress. If I were you, I'd overlook the middling motion isolation to bag this bed for a bargain price.

Between the excellent edge support, extensive sleep trial, and unbeatable price, the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress offers a whole lot for not much. If you're looking for something softer, you could always upgrade to the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid Mattress for plush comfort.

How we test mattresses

(Image credit: Future / Alex Temblador)

We put a lot of thought into how we test mattresses. It's the only way to standardize results across the board and bring you the best, unbiased reviews.

Our expert testers sample mattresses for several months to monitor their performance over time. We're all looking for the same things: comfort; support; breathability and cooling properties; motion isolation; edge support; weight bearing; and the all-important price. Some of our tests are more subjective than others: to test the comfort of a bed, for example, all we can do is lie on it and see how we feel. Others are more scientific: we use a combination of weights and water glasses to measure motion isolation and edge support.

Where possible, we compare our findings against verified customer reviews. That way, we can show a range of experiences with the same bed. We consider the more practical points, including sleep trials and warranties, before we bring it all back to the price, so that you can determine value for money.
