Dreaded Kolkata gangster, out on parole, gunned down in front of police station

KOLKATA: A dreaded gangster – a murder convict out on parole – was gunned down by six men on bikes while he was driving out of Narayanpur police station near Kolkata airport following his routine police attendance on Thursday evening.

Debojyoti Ghosh (45) alias Taak Babai, had nine bullet wounds on his body as witnesses said the bikers surrounded his car and kept pumping bullets from the front and two sides smashing the windscreen and window glasses.

The incident happened in front of Narayanpur police station lining the perimeter wall of Kolkata airport around 7.30pm, when the neighbourhood was bustling with activity.

Bidhannagar Police said Ghosh, a syndicate leader, was accused of multiple murder and extortion cases and was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with a murder case. There were allegations that he used to run an extortion racket from inside the Dum Dum correctional home as well. He was out on parole following a family emergency in the recent past and had to appear before Narayanpur police station everyday as per the parole condition.

Cops suspect members of a rival gang conducted the operation. The filmy styled murder comes a week after another former syndicate player and fireman was gunned down by professional killers infront of his home in Lake Town.

Till last reports cops were trying to track down the criminals from available CCTV footage of the incident but none were arrested yet.
