DR Congo: 51 defendants on trial over alleged coup bid

Prosecutors seek the death penalty for 50 of the 51 men on trial over May's coup attempt in DR Congo. About half a dozen of the defendants are foreign nationals, including three Americans.

Also, in Kenya, the race is on to replace current African Union chief, Moussa Faki Mahamat. Amongst those throwing their hat into the ring to succeed him is the opposition leader Raila Odinga

Finally, doctors in Nigeria have gone on a week-long strike to put pressure on security agencies to do more to free a kidnapped colleague. Dr Ganiyat Popoola has been held for eight months now since she, her husband and nephew were taken from her home. Her husband was released but the others are still being held.
