Drayton Manor is opening a brand new land with three rides later this year

Drayton Manor theme park has announced it will be opening a brand new land complete with THREE rides later this year - and offered a first look image so families can get a sneak peek.

The Staffordshire-based resort will be opening a new Viking themed area, which will also include a restaurant and plenty of surprises for families on fun-filled days out.

All three new rides will be ideal for families - after all, there's a reason why Drayton Manor is one of our top picks of the UK's best theme parks for toddlers.

New ride Jormungandr will be designed for kids looking to brave their first mini coaster, with views of the park and nearby lake on the re-imagined Buffalo Coaster. The new attraction will be themed around a Viking training school, where "ancient Viking mythical horse will teach them how to become a powerful god".

For kids who have already taken on a ride and want more thrills, the other attractions are sure to be just as popular.

Families can take on new thrill ride Zamperla Nebulaz, sitting in eight gondolas with four arms rotating, inspired by the malevolent god of mischief Loki.

Meanwhile fans of god of thunder Thor will want to check out Disk'O Coaster, which sends theme park fans spinning in a giant wheel across a coaster track - so it's not one for the faint-hearted!

The new land will also feature themed restaurant Walhalla serving up a whole host of delicious barbecue treats.

Although the resort hasn't confirmed an exact opening date for Vikings, it has said that the land will open to the public in 'spring 2022'.

Families looking to make a full minibreak of it may also want to check out the resort's onsite hotel which will be given a Vikings themed update thanks to 10 new themed rooms with Nordic-inspired furnishings and artwork paying tribute to mythical legends.

Drayton's not the only theme park opening some new attractions for families this spring. Alton Towers has previously announced three new attractions in CBeebies Land, while Legoland Windsor is opening a brand new attraction for 2022 sure to be a hit with kids who can't get enough of Lego building.

A spokesperson from Drayton Manor Resort, said: "We are beyond excited to officially announce our brand-new Vikings themed area which is due to open to the public this spring, with a whole host of exciting new rides and immersive experiences to really transport our guests into a bygone era.

"Our team has been working incredibly hard behind the scenes over the past year to make our Vikings vision a reality, and we look forward to opening the gates and welcoming guests in the very near future to create unforgettable memories on a Norse-inspired adventure!

"For all things Vikings, fun-seekers can keep a close eye on our website and social channels as we reveal more exciting updates and developments over the coming weeks."
