Draymond Green launches into Twitter tirade after new NBA player agreement announced

Golden State Warriors superstar Draymond Green has furiously blasted the NBA and players union over the latest collective bargaining agreement, which will start this summer.

A seven-year CBA was struck, which will include a second luxury tax level that will keep teams from using their mid level exception to sign players when reached. The thinking behind the move was to find a better balance between the teams that are willing to pay enormous tax bills, like Green’s reigning NBA champions Warriors, and those who aren't.

According to ESPN, the CBA second salary cup “apron”, which is $17.5million (£14.1m) over the tax line, would hinder teams who spend highly on the salary cap and luxury tax. Golden State's Donte DiVincenzo, Milwaukee's Joe Ingles, Boston's Danilo Gallinari, Brooklyn's Patty Mills and former Clippers guard John Wall wouldn't have been able to sign with those teams last summer had this change been in effect at that point in time.

And Warriors star Green, 33, is far from pleased with the CBA, putting the NBA and players union on blast. “Players lose again... Middle and Lower spectrum teams don't spend because they don't want to,” Green fumed to Twitter.

“They want to lose. So increase their spending capabilities, just to increase them. They continue to cut out the middle. And this is what we rushed into a deal for? Smdh! Never fails.”

Green then took aim at the agreement made by the players association. “Never seen someone go to a table with the assets that makes an entire machine go, and lose EVERY time! Blasphemous,” Green added. “I was excited…. A deal about to get done!!! TRASH!!! *Bubba Dub voice.”

Reports of in-season NBA tournaments coming into play in 2023-24 also wasn't safe from Green’s wrath. A report from The Athletic claimed that players on the winning team would win $500,000 each. This contrasted previous news that players may be in for a $1m windfall.

“What happened to the 1mm they said when this idea was first introduced?!?! sheesh we lost 500k there too!,” Green said with laughing emojis. And when he was challenged by a Twitter user, Green was even sharper with his tongue.

“You mean the people who get millions to play a sport?”, the user wrote. In which Green replied: “You mean the people who generate billions to make millions? Yeah those people!” And when quizzed on boycotting or sitting out in protest, Green added: “I’m in year 11 bro. It’s the younger guys and also those that aren’t in the league yet that gets F*cked!”
