'Dramatic scenes' as two rescued after vessel runs aground in River Clyde

TWO people had to be rescued after a yacht ran aground in the River Clyde.

Both sailors were taken to land by the coastguard after an accident near the James Watt Dock in Greenock.

The Coastguard was dispatched around 6.45pm on Tuesday evening and reports say that both people were rescued safely.

The boat was sailing in shallow waters as the tide went out, allowing Coastguard members to walk to the vessel.

The area is close to the James Watt Dock Marina, and is popular with day-trippers.

A number of Coastguard personnel arrived on the dock to oversee the rescue as onlookers reported “dramatic scenes”.

There were hopes the vessel could be re-floated on Wednesday morning with the change of tide.
