Dramatic photos show vehicle sliced in half after crashing into bridge

Dramatic photos show a van which was sliced in half after it crashed into a railway bridge in Cambridgeshire.

The vehicle hit the structure on the B1098 in Stonea at around 8.10am on Tuesday.

The bridge has a height restriction of 7ft (2.1m) and the force of the impact wedged the van in place.

Photos from the scene show the white transit also sustained damage to its windscreen and roof.

A Network Rail spokesman told the BBC said the bridge was fitted with a protection beam which absorbed the impact of the strike.

The bridge was not damaged and services on the line were only affected for about 20 minutes, he said.

The bridge is Britain's second most hit railway bridge - only beaten by a structure in Ely - 18miles.
