Dramatic moment pilot aborts landing at Manchester Airport as Storm Eunice batters UK

This is the moment several planes attempted to land at Manchester Airport as Storm Eunice battered the country.

Video footage shows planes visibly shake as they struggled against winds of up to 58mph on Friday (February 18).

Nine pilots were forced to abandon their landings and loop around before trying again.

The video, taken by Matt at AviationUpClose, captured planes attempt to land from Venice, Luqa, Marrakesh, Rome, Barcelona, Fueteventura and Tenerife.

One Marrakesh flight was diverted to Glasgow, a Fuerteventura was diverted to Bordeaux and a Tenerife flight was diverted to Liverpool.

Another made a very gusty landing following two go-arounds at London Stansted Airport.

The footage was taken from the airport pub.

Multiple red weather warnings were in place as the storm swept the UK yesterday.

The highest ever wind speed was recorded in the Isle of Wight at 122mph.

A 'danger to life' warning was in place for south Wales and parts of south-west England.

People were urged to stay at home amid fears the storm was the worst in the UK in 30 years.

There was widespread disruption on the roads and railways as the gale force winds lead to flying debris and dangerous conditions.

Today, travel disruption caused by Storm Eunice will continue into Saturday as the clean-up begins from the deadly storm.

Many train services will remain suspended on Saturday morning and 'do not travel' notices have been reissued for a number of services, according to National Rail Enquiries.

National Rail said “routes across most of Great Britain” remain affected.

Manchester Piccadilly advised travellers to check with National Rail for enquiries this morning, asking passengers to stay 'safe, be patient, and kind'.

National Rail confirmed a tree had fallen on the line between Manchester and Stockport, which caused delays to all services.

Do not travel alerts were issued across railways in England and Wales, as seven operators suspended all services, with footage showing a building roof being blown onto tracks.

Several people died across the country in tragic incidents related to the storm.

A woman in her 30s was killed after a tree fell on a car in north London, a man in his 50s died in Merseyside after debris hit the windscreen of a vehicle he was travelling in, and a man in his 20s has died in Hampshire after a car collided with a tree.
