Dramatic footage captured the moment a trailer turned into a fireball on the M90 during rush hour traffic.
Emergency services were called to junction 9 at Bridge of Earn in Perthshire, after the alarm was raised at around 9.50am on Monday, July 11. The motorway was closed southbound while crews attended the scene.
Video taken by passers-by shows the trailer completely engulfed in bright orange flames at the side of the road. The fire can be seen spreading while the stunned driver declares: "Oh Christ, feel the heat on that."
Another video posted on social media showed firefighters battling the blaze. Huge plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing up into the sky from the raging inferno.
Flames can be seen firing out of the van while traffic builds up on the road. Fire crews say they have now left the scene after "ensuring the area was made safe".
The latest update from Traffic Scotland at 11.13am said the southbound carriageway remained closed as drivers were warned to expect delays of around 40 minutes.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 9.51am on Monday 11 June to reports of a van on fire on the M90 southbound near Bridge of Earn.
“Operations control immediately mobilised three fire appliances to the location and firefighters extinguished the fire.
“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed they were in attendance to assist with traffic management while the road remained closed.
