Drake has addressed the leak of a song which calls beauty mogul Kylie Jenner a “side piece.” The track also sees Drake reference her sister Kendall Jenner and friend Gigi Hadid as he raps about his previous relationships.
The song was played during Night Owl Sound’s Instagram Live and he claimed that it was a “scrapped” track that "shouldn't have been played." He also appeared to address the Jenner sisters and Hadid directly.
Yesterday, Drake posted a statement which read, “A song that mark ran last night on night owl sound live set shouldn’t have been played. It’s a song that leaked 3 years ago and got scrapped shortly after.”
The song was made with his frequent collaborator Future and he continued, “[Night Owl Sound] was just going too deep in the drake/future catalogue.”
“Last thing I’d want to do is wake up having any friends of mine feeling disrespected so I just had to say that to start off the day,” he continued.
According to E! Online, the song sees Future rap, “Yeah, I’m a hater to society / Real s**t, Kylie Jenner, that’s a side piece / Yeah, I got 20 motherf**** Kylies.”
Drake also made a similar claim about Kylie’s sister Kendall and Hadid, rapping later, “Yeah, I got 20 damn Kendalls / Young slim baddies and they in Vogue / Yeah I got 20 f***in Gigis.”
The song is notable as romance rumours surrounded Drake and Kylie Jenner last year after the Kardashian family member split from Travis Scott (the father of her child Stormi Webster).
Drake, who lives in a Toronto mansion nicknamed The Embassy, is believed to have a home in the same neighbourhood as Kylie Jenner in Los Angeles. The pair were seen partying together last year.
A source told E! News last November that the pair were “not romantic” and “have always been good friends.” They continued, “It’s a convenient friendship but it’s strictly platonic...They aren’t hooking up but Kylie is enjoying having him around.”
Kylie, Kendall and Hadid have not addressed the song leak or Drake’s response on social media.
