Drake Maye falls to Broncos in wild 2024 NFL mock draft

In his latest 2024 NFL mock draft for the league’s official website, Adam Rank has a first-round projection for what he thinks teams should do (not necessarily what he thinks they will do).

Rank making his picks based on what he thinks teams should do led to several wild scenarios, including UNC quarterback Drake Maye falling all the way to the Denver Broncos at pick No. 12.

Amazingly, Rank doesn’t even seem to be convinced about drafting Maye at that spot. Here’s his commentary on Denver’s pick:

Hear me out, Broncos: You are not a quarterback away from competing. I would strongly suggest going another route — maybe trading back, maybe taking Brock Bowers. I legit don’t know. I just feel like you’re going to take a quarterback because the only guys on the current depth chart are Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci. Starting the season with those two at QB would make you the most unserious franchise in football. I mean, you could sign Ryan Tannehill, but that’s only if you want Brandon Perna to make a million dollars from his YouTube channel.

OK, I guess you should get your quarterback if he falls here after all. But man, you need so much help.

Rank believes three QBs — Caleb Williams (No. 1), Jayden Daniels (No. 2) and J.J. McCarthy (No. 11) — should go off the board before Maye. It remains to be seen if Daniels and McCarthy end up being picked before Maye, but even if they are, he seems unlikely to fall to the Broncos.

Even when considering that it’s a mock of what Rank thinks teams should do, having Maye fall to No. 12 is still an outlandish scenario. Sometimes crazy things happen during the draft, though. Maye dropping to Denver would be a dream scenario for Sean Payton’s squad.
