After much speculation, Drake has officially postponed the remaining dates of his Australia and New Zealand tour, citing a “scheduling conflict”.
Drake’s representative said in a statement that the remaining four dates for his tour, which included stops in Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland in early-March, will be rescheduled, with “tickets for the affected shows remain[ing] valid for the new dates”.
“We are actively working on rescheduling these dates along with adding some additional shows,” the statement read.
Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the rescheduled dates, which will be confirmed “as soon as possible”.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience,” the statement added.
“Drake and the entire team have had an incredible time doing these shows and are excited to return soon.”
The cancellation comes after Drake had already performed 12 of his ‘Anita Max Win’ Australian dates, including previous shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
The rapper had slated four final tour stops — in Brisbane on March 4, Sydney on March 7, and back-to-back shows in Auckland on March 15 and 16 — prior to the cancellation.
It comes hot on the heels of mounting speculation around the future of Drake’s Aussie tour, with fans raising concerns it would be cancelled on social media throughout the week.
Some claimed the rapper had pulled the plug on the remaining dates due to poor ticket sales, though many of his final shows were on the verge of selling out.
Adding fuel to the speculative fire, Courier Mail reported that Drake had left the country on his private jet on Wednesday morning, making the three-and-a-half hour flight to Fiji during his week off between tour dates.
It was also reported that Drake’s stage equipment, including a giant clear walkway used in every show of the tour, had been shipped to Europe on Wednesday morning.
Drake’s trip down under already made headlines even before rumours of the cancellation. After throwing a secret party in Melbourne ahead of the tour, Drake was caught on a drone on the balcony his hotel room in Sydney, in a viral video believed to be a gambling ad.
Then, an image of the money-hungry signs brought by concert-goers in Sydney went viral, before the rapper seemingly weighed-in on the Anna Paul and Mikaela Testa drama with a surprising choice of t-shirt at his Brisbane show.
Drake has yet to officially comment on the postponement, I guess because there’s no reception on his lush Fiji getaway? Huh, must be nice!
