Capcom announced that sales of Dragon's Dogma 2 worldwide has managed to exceed 2.5 million units. This is indeed an exciting milestone considering that the game was only launched last March 22. For those of you keeping count, that's just 11 days since the official release.
While that is indeed a great achievement, it doesn't come as much of a surprise for those who've been following the game. After all, Capcom even revealed in a statement that they "carried out various global-facing promotional activities" for this title. This was not only to attract longtime fans of the series but also to invite new players to try out the game. One of these was to give players access to a free application where they could create avatars even before the game came out. Another was the reveal of in-game pawns developed in partnership with celebrities in different countries and Japanese national athletes.
The Dragon's Dogma series are composed of action games in a fantasy setting and have players go on an adventure in an expansive open world of swords and magic. Ever since the first game was released in 2012, the series has obtained praise around the world for its gameplay features which include its "pawn" adventure companions who can carry out actions on their own. The series has exceeded 10 million units sold cumulatively.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is set 12 years after the first game. It's set in a sprawling open world and offers players a high degree of freedom. The game lets players to enjoy an intricately crafted and all-too-real fantasy while at the same time provide a taste of adventuring in a group of up to four people all while playing solo courtesy of the AI-controlled pawn characters that act as travelling companions.
