Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn will be stepping down from his role in the Department of Health.
Dr Glynn, who led the country through the Covid-19 pandemic, will be taking up a new position in the private sector.
The Department of Health has confirmed that Dr Glynn will leave on May 31.

He follows in the footsteps of outgoing Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan, who has also stepped down from his role in the Department of Health.
Dr Glynn is a physiotherapist and medical doctor with a PhD in surgical oncology and postgraduate training in both surgery and Public Health Medicine.
He qualified from UCD in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree (physiotherapy) and with his degree in medicine from the University of Aberdeen in 2017.
He has also been a member of the Royal College of Surgeons since 2012 and was in his role as the Deputy Medical Officer since 2018.
He is married to RTE journalist and former Riverdance star Carla O’Brien.
