Dr Dre has revealed the "extreme amount of pressure" he felt during his Super Bowl half-time show earlier in the year.
His confession comes a day after Rihanna was announced as the star attraction for next year's event.
Super Bowl LVI saw rapper Dre perform alongside fellow icons in the industry Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar. The artists put on a memorable show as they wowed viewers across the globe, but Dre, 57, has admitted the responsibility to nail it is huge.
Speaking to Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, the Forgot About Dre singer told Rihanna to make sure she has the "right people around" her when planning her show. He said: "It is an extreme amount of pressure," before gushing: "It's fun at the same time."
And Dre shared his appreciation of the Umbrella star as he continued: "I’m a super fan of Rihanna. I can’t wait to see what she’s going to do. I just like her and what she does, and her get down, and how she approaches her artistry and the whole nine. It’s fantastic. She has the opportunity to really blow us away."
He went on to boast she has a high standard to meet, revealing he feels his performance "set the bar extremely high". And he even said Rihanna might want to think about using some of the same creatives he used for the show to help her.
Being honest with the host, Dre admitted getting on stage on the big occasion made him feel "extremely nervous". "I don’t know if I’ve ever been that nervous before," he confessed. "Not only that, I don’t know if I’ve ever looked more forward to a Monday morning.
"So it’s the preparation and making sure you have the right people around you. All of these people came through for me, and everybody was extremely enthusiastic about the show."
Rihanna, known off stage as Robyn Rihanna Fenty, turned down the chance to perform at the Super Bowl back in 2020 in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, who had refused to stand for the American national anthem at the beginning of games to protest police brutality and racial inequality across the country.
However, following the latest announcement, Seth Dudowsky, NFL head of music, said: "We are thrilled to welcome Rihanna to the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show stage.
"Rihanna is a once in a generation artist who has been a cultural force throughout her career. We look forward to collaborating with Rihanna, Roc Nation and Apple Music to bring fans another historic Halftime Show performance."
