Dozens of pro-Palestinian and pro-divestment activists at Yale University were arrested on Monday for criminal trespassing after refusing to leave the premises. Despite this, the protesters have regrouped for another demonstration on Tuesday.
The Yale University police arrested 45 protesters on Monday, charging them with criminal trespassing. Some protesters remained on Tuesday morning, with a few even equipped with sleeping bags in front of the school's library. However, Beinecke Plaza, where the arrests took place, was closed and being guarded by the police.
This rally at Yale University is part of a larger wave of pro-Palestinian demonstrations happening on various college campuses across the United States. The recent escalation of tensions can be traced back to the October 7 terror attack on Israel by Hamas, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people. Subsequently, Israel launched a war on Hamas in Gaza, leading to the reported deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians, as stated by the enclave's health ministry.
