Dozens of bouquets left at scene of double-fatal crash

Dozens of floral tributes have been left near the scene of a car crash which killed two people and left three others seriously inured. Two people died and three more remain seriously injured in hospital after the smash in the early hours of Friday morning.

The incident, involving a white BMW, happened at the junction of the A548 and A5026 by the Lyons Fitness gym premises in Bagillt, Flintshire, at around 2.30am on April 22. The road was closed for more than 10 hours as police carried out investigation work.

Now mourners and well-wishers have left more than 50 bouquets of flowers on the ground and on a fence at the scene. There is also a heart-shaped balloon and cuddly toys of a teddy bear, a giraffe, and a chimp. Messages on the flowers included: "Never forget you guys" and "You will be sadly missed", NorthWalesLive reports.

A North Wales Police spokesman said: "We are appealing for any witnesses, or those with dashcam footage, that saw a white BMW 330 saloon travelling along the A548 from the Flint direction towards Bagillt prior to 2.30am to please contact us.” The Welsh Ambulance Service sent two rapid response vehicles and five emergency ambulances to the scene. "We were supported by the a crew from the Wales Air Ambulance," a spokesman said.

LyonsDen Fitness gym, which sits on the A548 at its junction with the A5026, posted on Facebook on Friday morning saying it was closed until further notice due to the "structural damage to the building" as a result of the crash. In a joint statement Neil Lyons and his wife, Faye, who run the gym, said: "Neil and I want to pass on our condolences to the family and friends of the people involved in the tragic accident this morning. We are so sad for their loss and wish those in hospital a good recovery. Faye xx"
