Download Festival 2025 promises to be another huge one, with three first-time headliners soundly debunking the "there are no more headliners" theory and proving, once again, that rock music is in rude health.
It might not match the scale of 2023's 20th-anniversary celebration, which provided a full four days of music instead of the usual three, but if 2023 proved anything – and 2024 certainly proved it again – it's that Download can still pull a massive crowd if that right bill is put in place.
It's been a strange period for the Donington Park faithful. Following a mammoth 2019 with headlining sets from Def Leppard, Slipknot and Tool, plans for the 2020 event were in full swing, with site improvements in place and bands galore.
Then, of course, came covid, and the postponement of the festival for a year. And then another year. It's what nobody wanted, and while Download Pilot did a valiant effort of bringing Download spirit to challenging times, it was Download 2022 that truly righted the ship, with Kiss, Iron Maiden and Biffy Clyro bringing the heat, while 2023 and 2024 just turned it up further. Now it feels like Download Festival isn't just back, but it's building a route into the future.
