Dow Jones Falls As Lowe's Misses Sales Estimates; Tesla Rallies On Tariff Cut

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped Tuesday as Wall Street struggled to add to the S&P 500's eight-session win streak. An early winner was Tesla, which rallied on news of tariff cuts for its cars, while Lowe's fell on the stock market today after missing earnings views.

After the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.2%, while the S&P 500 rose 0.1% in morning action. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite also gained 0.1%. Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq recorded gains over the last eight trading days. The Dow has a five-day win streak going.

Early Tuesday, the 10-year Treasury yield fell to 3.84%. Oil prices ticked down, as West Texas Intermediate futures stood near $74  per barrel.

Among exchange traded funds, the Invesco QQQ Trust rose 0.1%, while the SPDR S&P 500 ETF gained a fraction after the open.

Early Tuesday, Tesla stock rallied 1.5% after the European Union slashed its proposed tariff on imports of Tesla's China-made vehicles. It set a new reduced rate of 9% for Tesla, lower than the 20.8% it had indicated in July.
