Arsenal target Douglas Luiz has signed a new long-term contract at Aston Villa.
The Brazilian was the subject of multiple Gunners bids during the dying embers of the transfer window as Mikel Arteta attempted to make late additions to his midfield.
Interest in the Villa star was prioritised ahead of Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans after Brazilian club Palmeiras made it clear they would not sell top target, Danilo.
Arsenal could revisit their interest in the 21-year-old when the January transfer window opens, though may face competition from another of top European sides.
Luiz’s contract at Villa Park was due to expire next summer, raising the prospect of a cut-price move to the Emirates but the club have secured his future.
The 24-year-old has now committed his long-term future to Villa, having joined them in the summer of 2019 from Manchester City.
“I’m so happy, I love this club,” said Luiz of his new deal.
“This club opened the door for me from when I came to England. I play in the Premier League and I’m so happy.”
