Dougie Imrie slapped with 10 GAME ban as Morton boss punished by SFA for betting rules breach

Dougie Imrie has been hit with a 10 GAME ban for breaching SFA betting rules.

The Morton boss was among a group of players and coaches cited by the compliance officer for a range of offences between 2011 and 2021.

The first of Imrie's six charges dates back to when he was a player at Hamilton Accies.

The 38-year-old was up on six charges and has been slapped with a hefty punishment.

Four of the matches are suspended, meaning the Ton boss will immediately serve six games.

Cove Rangers assistant Gordon Young has received the same punishment from the SFA and will also miss at least six games with the League One side.

Arbroath star Gavin Swankie received a lesser punishment having been hit with an eight-game ban. However, four are suspended until next season.

The majority of the charges relate to breaches of Disciplinary Rule 31, which states: “No club, official, Team Official or other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall gamble in any way on a football match.”

A Morton club statement read: "Greenock Morton can today confirm that First Team Manager Dougie Imrie has been handed a 10-match ban (six of these to be served immediately and the other four suspended until the end of next season) following today’s hearing.

"The club are disappointed with the severity of the punishment despite the representations made on Dougie’s behalf by the club and Dougie himself.

"The club have requested a full explanation from the panel for the reasons behind their decision. Upon receipt of that explanation, the club will discuss with Dougie the possibility of an appeal against this decision.

"We will be making no further comment at this time, but the club board would like to reaffirm its backing of Dougie in this process."
