There’s nothing like the moment you learn that you’ve been drafted into the NFL. But for new Chicago Bears center Doug Kramer, there’s something a little sweeter when it just so happens to be to your favorite childhood team.
Kramer, who was selected in the sixth round, grew up in Hinsdale, IL, a western suburb of Chicago. He also played college ball at Illinois, where he made 48 starts at center.
One of the best things you can see are the phone calls made to the new draft selections when they first learn the news. And there’s something really special after the moment head coach Matt Eberflus made the call to Kramer.
Kramer’s family’s reaction was everything you’d imagine for a hometown guy getting drafted by the team he grew up watching.

Kramer joins 2020 second-round tight end Cole Kmet as another homegrown product to be drafted by the Bears. Kmet grew top in Arlington Heights, which is where the organization is exploring building a new state-of-the-art stadium.
