The Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee has approved Doug Collins’ nomination to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs with a vote of 18-1. The lone dissenting vote came from Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono.
Collins, a former top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, now sees his nomination advancing to the Senate floor for further consideration.
During his time as a key figure on the House Judiciary Committee, Collins played a prominent role in defending his party against various oversight efforts, including those related to the former president's first impeachment.
If confirmed by the full Senate, Collins will be tasked with overseeing the Department of Veterans Affairs, an agency responsible for providing vital services and support to the nation’s veterans.
