Norden Wilio was "motivated by greed" when he joined a friend in the drug rip-off that led to him murdering two men, a court has been told.
The 26-year-old and his friend Ali Ali, 28, had planned to rob a boot-load of marijuana from a dealer, 40-year-old Deniz Hasan, before a scuffle broke out in the Melbourne suburb of Meadow Heights in March 2019.
Wilio and Mr Ali dragged Mr Hasan, who thought the pair were going to buy drugs from him, out of his car and shots were fired.
Mr Hasan was killed.
Wilio then put his dying friend, who was also shot, in a shopping trolley and wheeled him about 600 metres away from the scene.
A jury found him guilty of murdering both men, as well as attempted armed robbery, in December last year.
"Mr Wilio was motivated by greed," prosecutor Raymond Gibson told the Victorian Supreme Court in a plea hearing on Thursday.
"Why else would he embark on an inherently risky journey - taking into the public domain a loaded shotgun?"
The prosecutor added that the cannabis stash in Mr Hasan's car was worth about $7000.
Wilio's barrister Peter Chadwick earlier this week said the then 23-year-old was drawn to joining Mr Ali in the drug rip-off because he was addicted to marijuana at the time.
"I must say I struggle with that," Justice Andrew Tinney said in response.
"He made a decision to leave his house with a sawn-off shotgun and go off and be involved in a rip-off for drugs.
"If you're seeking to argue his motivation was being a cannabis user, I must say it's a bit of a stretch in light of the anticipated crime."
The gun Wilio used to shoot Mr Ali and Mr Hasan has never been found.
Justice Tinney will sentence the 26-year-old at a later date.
