Double amputee Paisley charity founder tackles the NC500 on a scooter

A Paisley charity founder says that she is “excited'' and “nervous” as the double hand amputee takes on the NC500 for charity.

Corrine Hutton, better known as Cor, left her Finding Your Feet charity office on Monday morning as she embarked on a projected seven-day-long adventure around the Scottish North coast.

The Scottish mum said that doing the challenge known as the NC500 is something that she “has always wanted to do”.

Speaking to the Paisley Daily Express, the 52-year-old said: “This is something that I have always thought about doing, and I hate thinking about doing things and not doing it.

“I am both excited and nervous about it because I don’t know how it will go. The scooter I am on is only really meant to do 50 miles with a full tank, I get nervous once I am over 30 never mind 50.”

The scooter that Cor will be riding is an AJS 125 and it is something that the mum has always been into. She has always been a fan of motorbikes, with her riding them in the past, however, since losing some function in her hands after her surgeries she hasn’t been back on the bike until this adventure.

Cor added: “When I first got on it I nearly lost it at the first roundabout. It doesn’t go fast so I think I’ll be fine once I get used to how it handles, plus the weather is to be mixed anyway so I am all wrapped up for all weathers and conditions on this bike.

“We are meeting a few of the troopers along the way to stop and get a bite to eat with. It is going to be great to see all the scenery and people along the way.

“We have planned a hotel that will see us reach a hotel at the end of every day, I am not sure how long the day is going to be as it could be five hours or 15, but that's the loose plan anyway.”

All the money that is raised will be going to the finding your feet charity to help people find their feet if they have been affected by amputation or limb absence. The charity began in 2014 and was founded by the NC500 challenger Cor.
