Dorset housebuilder appoints new managing director

Dorset housebuilder AJC Group has appointed a new managing director. Sebastian Janes, 34, established the company - an affordable homes specialist - as AJ Group in 2011 with Mark Adams; it became AJC Group in 2018 when David Cracklen joined as a co-owner and director.

The business, which is based on Sandbanks Road in Poole, has a 40-strong workforce of construction and customer service professionals working across Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Somerset. The team specialises in delivering eco-focused residential schemes in partnership with registered providers, local authorities and charities.

Mr Janes, who has a background in the construction industry, said he was "immensely proud" of how much the business had grown since it was founded.

He said: "Our aim has always been to improve the quality and quantity of affordable housing delivered in this region. With an outstanding skillset across our construction and office-based team, we are working incredibly hard to deliver innovative, design-led homes and set new standards for mixed-tenure partnership development."

The promotion comes as AJC Group continues with its strategy to deliver 200 mixed-tenure homes during 2023, reflecting a construction value in excess of £100m. The company said it was "on target" to deliver 500 new homes a year across the region by 2025 through land acquisition, brownfield regeneration, strategic land promotion and "considerate construction".

“Although the buoyant housing market is softening, the demand for quality affordable housing continues to grow," added Mr Janes. "The culture we have created at AJC Group is well-aligned with our partners and supply chain, which has been critical to fostering highly positive and productive working relationships, and securing repeat business."

The company currently has seven schemes under construction including Okeford Fitzpaine in Blandford Forum; Violet Cross in Hazelbury Bryan; West Cliff Gardens and Lindsay Road, in Bournemouth; Chaddesley Glen in Sandbanks, Poole; and North Road and Herbert Avenue, in Poole.

Last August, AJC Group announced each member of staff would receive a £200 cost-of-living bonus each month for the "foreseeable future". It also announced an extra day of annual leave for staff birthdays.
