Doomsday Mom Lori Vallow's Sister Speaks Out After Chad Daybell's Conviction

Chad Daybell sits during a court hearing, Aug. 4, 2020, in St. Anthony, Idaho. A judge is considering what effect a paperwork snafu should have on one of the three murder charges against Chad D

Lori Vallow's sister, Summer Shiflet, made her first public statement since an Idaho jury convicted Chad Daybell in his triple murder case. Shiflet spoke at CrimeCon 2024 in Nashville, hours after Daybell was sentenced to death for his crimes.

Vallow and Daybell were convicted of multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, insurance fraud, and grand theft. The couple, known for their extreme apocalyptic beliefs, were found guilty of killing Vallow's two children, 7-year-old J.J. Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, as well as Daybell's first wife, Tammy Daybell, in 2019.

Shiflet expressed gratitude towards law enforcement and prosecutors for bringing justice to the victims. She emphasized that her niece and nephew did not deserve their tragic fate.

Prosecutors argued that greed for money, power, and sex motivated Vallow and Daybell to commit the murders. The couple also stole the children's Social Security benefits after their disappearance in 2019.

The remains of the children were found on Daybell's property in 2020, revealing the gruesome nature of their deaths. Autopsy reports indicated that J.J. died of asphyxiation and Tylee's cause of death remains unknown due to the condition of her remains.

Shiflet reflected on her sister's mental health issues and delusional beliefs, stating that Vallow perceives her reality as valid. She acknowledged her initial disbelief in Vallow's capability to harm her children and attributed her sister's actions to a mental breakdown.

Vallow's claims of communicating with deceased loved ones and angelic beings were highlighted during her sentencing, showcasing her detachment from reality. Daybell, a writer of apocalyptic novels, and Vallow were part of a group focused on preparing for the end of times.

Vallow faces additional murder charges in Arizona, further complicating the legal proceedings surrounding the case. Shiflet's public address shed light on the complexities of her sister's mental state and the tragic events that unfolded due to her association with Daybell.
